Cloudformation is an AWS service that leverages YAML files to provision AWS infrastructure.
Although this might be a sensible way to start a small project, we have found that cloudformation simply doesn’t scale as the infrastructure grows. Also, it can be really difficult to understand the changes you are trying to apply to the infrastructure because the feature is not implemented very well.
